Alumni News
Madison Smith is accepted into the 2022 Schmidthorst College of Business Hatch®
Madison Smith a 2021 Otsego High School graduate, has been accepted into the 2022 Hatch® Program. The Hatch®, modeled after the ABC hit TV show “Shark Tank,” features student entrepreneurs (Hatchlings) giving a live pitch of their business idea to a panel of BGSU alumni investors. The Hatch® will be hosted on April 21, 2022, in the Maurer Center Atrium.
Hatchlings are chosen after a highly selective application process. Prior to the Hatch®, each Hatchling completes an eleven-week program with an accomplished BGSU alumni mentor to create a business presentation. The Hatch is a virtual event free and open to the public. The 2020 Hatch® was streamed live to Hatch Watch Parties around the region and had over 3,200 views on YouTube. To date, more than $650,000 has been committed to student startups by alumni investors through equity investments.
Smith’s The ToastySleeve seeks to maintain the temperature of warm beverages such as coffee with a reusable drink sleeve.
The Schmidthorst College of Business is among the top 1% of business programs in the world and is ranked as the 29th best public undergraduate business program in the United States. You can learn more at http://www.bgsu.edu/business.

Safe School Helpline
Dear Parents, Students and Friends,
Recent polls show that parents’ first concern about schools today is their child’s safety. That is my concern as well. Fortunately, the Otsego is very safe. However, no community is immune from the threats of violence and drugs that endanger public schools nationwide.
We are introducing a Safe School Helpline® to help prevent such actions. It is designed to assist you in reporting any wrongdoing that impacts our schools, our students, or our staff – anonymously, so as to protect your privacy. For example, you may wish to report acts of violence, theft, drug or alcohol use, weapons, or sexual harassment.
Just call from a touch-tone phone to 1-800-4-1-VOICE, ext. 359 (418-6423) to leave your information. Or TEXT: 614-426-0240 Then type: TIPS Your message will not be traced, and you will not be identified. The Safe School Helpline® team will transcribe and fax your message to school officials, so appropriate action can be taken.
Thank you for your continued support to provide a better education for all Otsego students.
